ABOUT US

Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Today, Key Club exists on more than 5,000 high school campuses, primarily in the United States and Canada. Growth efforts, however, have taken the Key Club experience internationally to Canada, the Caribbean nations, Central and South America, and most recently to Asia and Australia. Key Club International is an organization of individual Key Clubs and is funded by nominal dues paid by every member. Its officers are high school leaders elected by the members at district and International conventions. The organization offers a wide range of opportunities to its members:

  • Leadership development
  • Vocational guidance
  • College scholarships
  • Subscription to the Key Club magazine
  • Service-learning
  • Personal enrichment
  • Value-added member benefit programs
  • Liability insurance coverage

Originally, Key Club adopted as its motto, "We Build", the same motto as its parent organization, Kiwanis International. In 1976, the organization opted to change its motto to Caring Our Way of Life because these words more clearly conveyed members reasons for helping others.

DISTRICT PROJECT

To develop initiative and leadership. A specific project focus selected every other year by the District Project committee made up of members of the District Board. The current District Project covers the years 2010-2012. Clubs in the California - Nevada - Hawaii District come up with projects that encompass this District focus. Clubs do these projects throughout the year.

10-12 CNH DISTRICT PROJECT

Project Shine: Bringing Life into Someone's Life focuses on individuals with special needs , whether it is academically, physically, or mentally. As Key Clubbers who become dedicated to this project focus on helping those with disabilities, we can now be the leaders and examples in our schools and communities on how we should be treating those with special needs, an how to help and support them as best we can. As Key Clubbers, our motto is "Caring - Our Way of Life." Those with some type of disability need people to care for them and to show them acceptance. We now have the chance to exemplify our motto and trulylive up to it.

And, besides directly helping those with special needs, we can also work on educating and spreading awareness to people in our community about the different disabilities. It would offer people a better understanding on the various types, which in turn can lead them to be more empathetic and understanding. Overall, our District Project is helping to unite people with differences, and to also help to change the negative ways people with special needs are treated.
